Dr. John M. King, DVM, age 89, of Ithaca, NY passed away Thursday, April 14, 2016 at Kendal. Born January 16, 1927 in Boston, MA, he attended public school until his family split in 1935 and then attended Hillside School (a farm home school) in Marlboro, MA until 1945. In 1945 John joined the US Army and went on to Germany for a year. In 1947 he was married to Marie Ryan. They had a son J.D. in 1954 who died in 2002. John worked a year for Delaware Power and Light Company as a lineman before attending the University of Delaware for two years in Pre-Vet. He then went on to Oklahoma Ag. & Mechanical College (now Oklahoma State Univ.) for a year in Pre-Vet prior to entering Veterinary College there for 4 years of Veterinary College on the G.I. bill. In 1955 John came to Cornell and worked there 50 years in the College of Veterinary Medicine. During his teaching career at the NYS Veterinary College at Cornell he spent all of his sabbaticals in foreign countries to which he was invited to teach and do applied research. John is survived by his wife, Marie Ryan King of Ithaca; a sister, Ruth King of Florida; nieces and nephews. Services will be held later. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Ithaca. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the charity of one's choice. Perkins Funeral Home assisted the family.
