JOHN W. MOREY, Sr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother passed away peacefully Sunday morning, October 22, 2006 at his home on Sheldon Road in Freeville, NY. He was born May 26, 1929 in VanEtten, NY. John is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marjorie Cady Morey and his three children, John (Jennifer) Morey, Jr., Deborah (Philip, deceased) Ormsby and Doreen (Mark) Kirchgraber; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Myra "Jane" (Robert, deceased) Forbes, Mason (Beverly) Morey, Virginia (Dan "Stubby") Bailey, Ruth (John) Bailey, Margie (Elwood) Laird and Robert (Kathy) Morey; nieces and nephews. John was

John was preceded in death by a brother, Fred Morey; a sister, Florence Lagstrom and a sister and brother-in-law, Violet "Peggy" and Milton DeGraw. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Marion Morey and brother-in-law, Peter Lagstrom.

John was a proud veteran of the US Army having served in the Korean War. He was a member of the Leonard T. Spaulding Post 1134, American Legion, the Dryden Township Post 8158, Veterans of Foreign Wars and was a member of the Dryden Veterans Memorial Home Ritual Team. He proudly marched in parades and served on military burial details. John was a hard working and social man, known to many as

the "Surrogate Mayor" of West Dryden. He was also known as "The Iron Man" to many and as "Poppy" to his grandchildren. He had many friends and was an avid farmer, 4-H leader and election inspector. Throughout his life John defeated many physical battles yet he continued to lead a happy life enjoying music and dancing. Friends will fondly remember John for his fun-loving personality, his great sense of humor, his hard work and dedication but most of all the love he had for his family and friends who know that he will be greatly missed but that his spirit will live forever through their many wonderful memories.

Funeral services will be held at 10 AM Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2006 at the Perkins Funeral Home. John’s grandson, Philip Ormsby, Jr., will

officiate. Burial with military honors provided by members of the

Dryden Veterans Memorial Home Ritual Team will be in Green Hills Cemetery, Dryden. Friends are invited to call from 7 to 9 PM Tuesday at the funeral home, 55 West Main St., Dryden, NY.
