Joseph P. Renda

JOSEPH PETER RENDA, age 85, of 423 Mclean Road, Cortland, NY passed away Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2009 at the Cortland Regional Medical center after a lengthy illness. “Joe” was born in Endicott, NY on July 24, 1924, a son of the late James and Frances Curatalo Renda. Joe served in the US Army from 1945 to 1947. He was a resident of Endicott until 1973 when he was married to Virginia Evener. Mr. & Mrs. Renda resided in Cortland and Dryden prior to relocating to McLean Road. Joe was retired from Champion Sheet Metal as a welder and later for Higgins Supply. He was an avid musician and played for several country music bands.

Survivors include his loving wife, Virginia Renda of Cortland, his son, James Renda of Killawog, four step-children, Mary (Glen) Brickey of Locke, Cindy (Joel) Brown of Cortland, Keith Degear of Roswell, NM and Lyn (Sue) Degear of Fayetteville, NC; a brother Bennie (Jean) Renda of Morrisville, VT; Rosaria (Bert) Freeman Daly City, CA and several grand and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Joe was pre-deceased by his parents, four sisters and a brother.

Funeral services will be held at 6 PM Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009 at the Perkins Funeral Home, 55 West Main St., Dryden. There are no calling hours. Burial, delayed until spring, will be in Willow Glen Cemetery, Dryden. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the American Heart Association of the Kidney Foundation. www.perkinsfuneralhome.com
