Born in Ovid, NY to J. Kennedy Hanlon and Mildred Cotman Hanlon on November 18, 1926 and passed away peacefully November 15, 2024 three days shy of her 98th birthday. Predeceased by parents, sisters Dolores Savino and Jeanne Knapp Olszowy and granddaughter Katie Savino. Brothers-in-law, Michael Savino, Daniel (JoAnn), Sisters-in-law Angela, Josephine, and Clara. Survived by husband, Thomas J. Savino, Sr. whom she married on July 12, 1947. Sons Thomas (Kay) Pine City, NY, James (Jennifer) Cortland, NY John (Dorian) Penfield, NY and Daughter Linda, Marathon, NY, sister Miriam (Mimi) Eldridge and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Anthony (Carol) Horseheads. 8 Grandchildren: Matthew, Kyra (Chad), Amy (Bill), Chris, (Serena), Kevin, Kyle, Ryan. 5 Great-grandchildren Veronica, Cooper, Sara, Ryan & Leah and several nieces, nephews, and Godchildren.

Joyce was an RN graduate of St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing 1947 and proud member of the US Cadet Corp 1944-1947. While working at St. Joseph’s Hospital Joyce was a recipient of the OPPY Award in 1971 that recognizes Outstanding People Person of the year. She worked on all reunions: High School, Nursing School and Tom’s Navy reunions. Joyce and Tom traveled to many states for Navy reunions. They truly enjoyed their life long friends of the ‘Poker Club’ and White Eagle Singers. They moved to Marathon, NY in February 2020 to be closer to family members for long term care, in a house built by son Jim, “The House That Love Built.” 5:00 Happy Hour with the family was a daily ritual to come together, plan, reminisce, and just relax and enjoy one another. Joyce & Tom were awarded NYS Longest Married Couple in 2022 at 75 years and still held the title as of last July on their 77th wedding anniversary. Joyce was a devout Catholic who lived out her faith daily and was a longtime communicant of St. Mary’s Parish in Elmira, NY. Joyce was a loving, kind, generous, devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, mother-in-law, grandmother, and friend noted for her remarkable memory and her infectious laughter. The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to the wonderful staff at Hospicare of Cortland for the loving care they provided, especially Zach Lewis.
