Karen Stone Darling

KAREN STONE DARLING, age 56, of Excelsior Street. Cortland, NY died Thursday, March 27, 2008 at the Hospicare Residence in Ithaca, NY after a courageous nine month battle with cancer. Karen was born in Cortland, NY on October 12, 1951, a daughter of Spencer and Virginia Weinert Stone of Venice. She was graduated from Cortland High School in 1969 and attended SUNY Cobleskill and was graduated from SUNY Cortland in 1973. Karen was employed recently at the Dryden Elementary School as a teaching assistant. She was an avid reader who enjoyed Stephen King novels. Karen was a wonderful daughter and mother who will be greatly missed by her family, friends, co-workers and all who knew her. Most of all her daughter will miss all that they had hoped to share in the future years.

Survivors include her parents, Spencer and Virginia Stone of Venice, FL; her daughter, Caitlin Redfield of Cortland; her brother, Gary (Leisa) Stone of Little York, NY; her sister, Katherine (Daniel) Highbaugh of Fort Myers, FL; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas Darling who died January 11, 2008.

Memorial services will be held at 5 PM Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at the Perkins Funeral Home with Rev. Alan Kinney officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Friends are invited to call from 3 to 5 PM Wednesday at the funeral home, 55 West Main St., Dryden, NY.
