Kenneth S. Shaw, age 101, of McLean passed away Sunday, November 9, 2014 at the home of his granddaughter in Clayton, NC. Born July 1, 1913 in Summerhill, NY, he was a son of the late Claude and Bertha Peacock Shaw. Ken was graduated from Homer Academy and on October 14, 1939 he was married to the former Leila E. Butts at Blodgett Mills, NY. They were married 70 years until her death in 2010.Ken was employed with Durkee?s Bakery and then 34 years with Smith Corona.

He was a veteran of WW II having served honorably in the US Army from 1943 – 1945. Ken was a member of the McLean Community Church for over 60 years, serving as deacon, trustee and vice chairman. He was a director of the McLean Rural Cemetery for over 30 years and was groundskeeper for 18 years. In 1947, Ken became a charter member of the McLean Fire Dept. and was a volunteer firefighter for over 50 years, a trustee for 10 years and continued until the present as a social member. He was a Boy Scout leader, committeeman and assistant scout leader. Ken enjoyed traveling, bicycling, walking, camping, working around his home, mowing his lawn and especially being active in the community.

In addition to his parents and wife, Ken is predeceased by his sons, Kenneth Jr. and Douglas Shaw; brothers, Everett and Wilford Shaw; sisters, Gladys, Evelynn and Vivian (Wagner) Shaw. Ken is survived by his brother, Gerald Shaw of Moravia, NY; grandchildren, Shellie (Scot) Cron of Clayton, NC and Jason (Jennifer) Shaw of Owego, NY; four great granddaughters, nieces, nephews and many friends in the McLean Community.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, November 25, 1014 in the McLean Community Church with Pastor David Carter officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow in McLean Rural Cemetery. Friends are invited to call from 4 – 6 pm, Monday, November 24, 2014 at the Perkins Funeral Home, 55 W. Main St., Dryden, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to McLean Community Church, PO Box 246 or McLean Fire Dept., PO Box 121, McLean, NY 13102.
