Kermit Oliver Marquis, age 85, of 36 Fall Creek Road, Freeville, NY passed away Thursday, July 30, 2015 at home. Kermit was born in Summer Hill, NY on October 23, 1930, a son of the late James and Ethel Marquis.On December 30, 1953 he was married to Geraldine Ann (Smith) Marquis, (who predeceased him) in the Varna Methodist Church.
“Kerm” was retired from farming in 2009. Mr. and Mrs. Marquis owned and operated a 400 acre registered Holstein dairy farm in Freeville for over 50 years and sold cattle to farms in 27 countries on 5 continents. Later they enjoyed raising Belgian Draft Horses and hosted and participated in many draft horse events. Kerm was a member of the United Methodist Church of Freeville and a 55 year member of the Grange. Kermit was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother who was a friend to all who knew him. He will be dearly missed. The family would like to thank JoAnne Neville for being a companion to him the last few years and thank the personal aides, especially Monique, for the care he received over the last several months.
Survivors include his sons, David (Sally Hoyt) of Cortland with grandchildren Chantel (Erik Gillette) and great grandson, Coen; Corey (Gabby Satterly), Casey, Cyler; and son, Keith of VanEtten with grandchildren Adrienne (Steve) and great grandchildren, Zachary and Brooke; Chelsea and Gavin; his daughters, Diane (Todd)TenKate of Freeville with granddaughters Kayla (Justin Ryan) and Ashley; and daughter, KarenLee of Collegeville, PA with grandson, Colin; brothers, Kenneth (Joyce-predeceased) of Freeville, Clarence (Dorothy) of Freeville, Clifford of Kentucky and sister, Kathleen of Cortland; and sister-in-law, MaryEllen Lane, along with several nieces and nephews. Kermit was predeceased by his parents; loving wife, Geraldine; sisters-in-law, Jacqueline Wintermute, Ladema Brooks and Joyce Marquis. A celebration of his life will be held at 10 AM, Monday, August 3, 2015 at the Perkins Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Willow Glen Cemetery, Dryden. Friends are invited to call from 6 to 8 PM Sunday at the funeral home, 55 West Main St., Dryden. Memorials are graciously directed to the United Methodist Church of Freeville, P.O.
