OBITUARY RELEASE
L. JOHN McARTHUR, age 85, of NYS Rt. 41, McGraw, NY passed away Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at the Syracuse Veterans Hospital after a short illness. "John" was born December 16, 1931 in Cortland, NY a son of the late Donald J. and Doris Cole McArthur. He was a 1950 graduate of Dryden High School and served in the US Army in Germany during the Korean War. "Long John" was employed at Smith Corona for 54 years, retiring in 1999 as a Shift Supervisor. He was a member of the Freeville United Methodist Church. His first wife, Cecil Yvonne Aldrich died in 1980.
Survivors include his loving wife of 34 years, Janet Mae Williams McArthur of McGraw; his children, Daniel (Anna) McArthur of Dryden, Patricia (Gerald) Codner, James L. McArthur of Truxton, Teresa (Gary) McFarling of Bismark, ND, Leon Phelps, Jr. of Taylor, Tim (Denice) Phelps of Layton, Utah, Kim (David) Parker of Nazareth, PA, Mark (Julie) Phelps of Cortland; many extended family members; eighteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by sons, Scott Eric and Edward Brian McArthur.
Funeral services will be held at 4:30 PM, Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2017 at the Perkins Funeral Home with Pastor Andrew Camp officiating. Burial will be private at Willow Glen Cemetery, Dryden. Friends are invited to call from 3:30 to 4:30 PM at the funeral home, 55 West Main Street, Dryden, NY.
