Lael E Ayers

LAEL ELIZABETH AYERS, 49, of Cortland, NY passed away on Friday, June 05, 2009 from complications following surgery. She was born on February 04, 1960, in Ithaca, NY, daughter of Robert Rowley Ayers and Carol Rowley Ayers of Freeville, NY. She is survived by her parents; 3 siblings: Schuyler (Maureen) Ayers of Cocoa, Fl, Kirstin (Eric) Gasteiger of Newfield, NY and Dana (Claudia) Ayers of Spencer, NY; 4 nieces and nephews: Jessica and Joshua Bergen, and Kelsey and Katie Gasteiger; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.She was employed at the Cortland Wastewater Treatment Plant as an administrative assistant, and at Cayuga Medical Center's Cortland Convenient Care.

Lael graduated from Dryden Central High School in 1978, and attended Tompkins Cortland Community College. She attended Freeville United Methodist Church.

Lael enjoyed traveling, especially with Sky and Maureen. She avidly pursued collectibles, which she proudly displayed in her home. She cherished relationships with co-workers and friends. Everyone she met was touched by her loving spirit and generosity. In particular, Lael took great joy in spending time with her nieces, Kelsey and Katie. She would always share a loving and inspiring story about the antics of her 3 cats: Otis, Basil and Kiera.

Lael will be truly missed. The lives of all her family and friends are diminished by her passing. We thank you for your thoughts and prayers.

Memorial services will be held at 11:30 AM, Thursday, June 11, 2009, at the United Methodist Church of Freeville with Rev. Dale Austin officiating. Burial, in Willow Glen Cemetery, will be private. Lael's family will be present to receive their friends from 7 to 9 PM Wednesday at the Perkins Funeral Home, 55 West Main St., Dryden. Those wishing to remember Lael are asked to consider a memorial to the SPCA of Cortland County, 879 McLean Road, Cortland, NY 13045.
