Lawrence Fenner, 78, passed peacefully at home on April 30, 2015 after extended illness. He is survived by a sister, Dorothy Fenner of Horseheads; a niece, Patricia Enslow (William) of Freeville; grand nephews and nieces, and grand- grand nephews and nieces.

Larry was a friendly, kind, and positive man of faith. Larry spent his early years at Newark State School for those with developmental disabilities. At age 45 Larry was placed in a group home in Ithaca through Broome Developmental Services. Larry soon flourished with the opportunities afforded to him living in the community. Larry had a strong work ethic and spent many years as a reliable and energetic worker at Challenge Industries. At 72 Larry joined the Grover-Murray IRA residence where he continued his active life.

Family and friends have always been important to Larry and he was loyal and kind to all who knew him. He was a regular participant in activities at the Ithaca Youth Bureau and at his church. He loved sports, going to dances, concerts and playing his Elvis records.

Larry was a loyal friend who always had a smile and positive energy to share with those who knew him. Larry’s story is one of resilience and a triumph over institutionalization. He will be missed.

Funeral services will be held at 6 pm, Friday, May 8, 2015 at Reach Out for Christ Church, 284 Johnson Road, Freeville, NY with Pastor Tom Miller officiating. Friends may call from 4 – 6 pm at the Church prior to the service. There will be a time of fellowship following the service. Private burial will be in Willow Glen Cemetery, Dryden, NY.

In lieu of flowers, for a memorial in Larry Fenner’s name, donations may be made to Reach Out For Christ Church.
