Lawrence A. Laplant

Lawrence Alan "Big Daddy & Buddy" LaPlant , age 74, passed away peacefully to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 31st, 2009 following a short illness. He was born and raised in Homer New York, a son of the late Orson and Delia LaPlant. Larry was a retired Chief of Corrections and Sgt. Deputy Sheriff for over 25 years with the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Department. He was very passionate about building wooden furniture for his family, playing scratch off tickets at every local store, fishing, mowing "the property" and making people laugh. He served in the United States Air Force from 1953-1957.

He is survived by his daughters, Lynn (John) Hausmann and Christie (Chris "C.J." Johnson) LaPlant; his former wife, whom he continued to cherish, Carol M. LaPlant; children, Larry Junior, Danny, Douglas and Laura; his brother Gerald (Patti) LaPlant, sister Suzanne Hunter and sister in law June Laplant; his beloved grandson Matthew John Kessler (his lil’man); his beloved step-grandchildren, Tara Lynn and Richard John Hausmann; several nieces and nephews and last but not least his fury grand-kitties, Punky Brewster, Mickey Mouse, Gizmo and Tigger 2! He was pre-deceased by his brother Edward LaPlant and three sisters, Marian White, Laurayne (Phil) Brong and Laura (Yale) Hughes and a brother-in-law, Harold Hunter.

Friends are invited to a memorial service that will be held at 1 PM Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009 at The First Presbyterian Church of Dryden. Rev. David C. Robinson will officiate. Friends are asked to please stay after the service (approx. 1:30 PM) to greet Larry’s family. Memorials, in lieu of flowers, to Toys-for-Tots, in care of the Tompkins County Sheriff’s office, 779 Warren Road, Ithaca, NY 14850. Perkins Funeral Home is assisting the family.
