Lawrence D. Mix

Lawrence D. Mix, age 81, passed away on February 24, 2018 at Strong Memorial Hospital after several years of battling his declining health. He was born to the late Norman Albert Mix and Ida Belle Shaw Mix on May 1, 1936 in the Town of Caroline where he resided his entire life.

He was graduated from Newark Valley High School in 1954 and married his wife, Dorothy Jean Yaple, in 1959 who predeceased him in December 2017. Larry is survived by son Donald Mix; daughter, Teresa Mix; grandson Robert (Emily) Mix; granddaughters Casey (Jeremy) Frederici and Jennifer (Shondel Wright) Davis; two beautiful great-grandchildren; a sister Ina Mix; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Clarence Mix and William Mix; and sister, Dorothy Mix.

Larry operated the family farm and worked side-by-side with his wife, Dotty, until they sold the dairy animals in 1992. They’d continued raising livestock and working the land for several years before retiring fully. He was an avid hunter who tagged a buck for 25 years straight and he loved several German Shorthaired Pointers over years who shared his interest in bird hunting. He enjoyed reading, shooting skeet, motorcycle riding, reading to his grandchildren, and trips in the motor home to hunt or attend bluegrass festivals with Dotty. He had a sharp memory and had many stories to tell.

Calling hours will be held from 10 am to Noon on Friday, March 2, 2018 at the Perkins Funeral Home, 55 West Main Street, Dryden, NY. There will be a luncheon, at a location to be announced, after the visitation. Burial will be private in Caroline Grove Cemetery.
