LAWRENCE (LARRY) S. RIVKIN, age 78, of Newfield, NY passed away unexpectedly

Friday, Jan. 21, 2011 at the Cayuga Medical Center, Ithaca, NY. Larry was born January 7,

1933 in Syracuse, NY. He was a graduate of Columbia University, College of Pharmacy. He owned pharmacies in Syracuse, Varna and Ithaca before being employed at Cornell University Veterinary College where he developed the first pharmacy and met the love of his life. He wed Ann Prince on Dec. 15, 1979. After serving as Director of Pharmacy at various central NY hospitals, he and Ann ventured out west to work at the Sage Memorial Hospital on theNavajo Reservation, Ganado, AZ. Larry and Ann developed very strong ties with the Navajo community, transforming both their lives and the lives of those they touched. He loved Mother Earth and cared deeply for all living beings. Larry was a visionary, a healer and a compassionate man ahead of his time. He was a man who sought new challenges and was among the first to participate in stem cell medical research.

Survivors include his wife, Almita Ann Prince Rivkin of Newfield, his dogs, Fluffer and Tippi, his loving family and a broad extended family, all of whose lives he touched with his wisdom, great spirit and love. The world is a better place because of Larry’s special gifts that he imparted to so many. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him, and his vision will no doubt continue through them.

Larry’s family will be present to receive their friends from 5 to 7 PM Tuesday at the Perkins
