Lester F. Armstrong

LESTER F. ARMSTRONG, age 75, of 2014 Elmira Road, Newfield, NY died Thursday, June 26, 2008 at The Cayuga Medical Center at Ithaca, NY. Mr. Armstrong was born in Newfield on Nov. 3, 1932 a son of the late Walter and Oletha Smith Armstrong. "Les" served in the US Army Quartermaster’s Corps from 1952 to 1954. He was retired from the NYS Dept. of Transportation where he was a heavy equipment operator and later was employed at Cornell University. He was a lifetime and a founding member of the Newfield Fire Company and had held many offices including several terms as Fire Chief. Les was a member of the Newfield Senior Citizens and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his loving wife of 33 years, Doris Brown Armstrong of Newfield, daughter, Bonnie (Jamie) Warren and Diane Marshall of Newfield, Anita (Luigi) DiGiacomo of Dryden, Timothy Crispell of Cortland, John (Kathy) Crispell of Dryden, Merrie (Jason) Hulbert of Newfield, Susan (Raymond) Terry of Interlaken; nineteen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Theresa "Red" and Katherine Armstrong and his beloved cat, Buddy. He was predeceased by his siblings, Walter, Roger Armstrong and Irene Armstrong.

Funeral services will be held at 1 PM Wednesday, July 2, 2008 at the Perkins Funeral Home with Rev. Dale Ford officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Newfield. Friends are invited to call from 6 to 8 PM Tuesday and from 12 to 1 PM Wednesday at the funeral home, 55 West Main St., Dryden.
