Liliane Marie Van de Putte Jorgensen of Freeville, NY passed away on 20 Dec 2014 at the Hospicare Residence in Ithaca, NY., after a 26 year battle with cancer. Liliane was born in Casablanca, Morocco to her parents, Maurice and Marguerite Van de Putte of Paris, France. Before Liliane left Paris in 1962, she graduated from a retailing school there.
In America she had many positions, starting with being the au pair for the five children of a Cortland doctor, and including the manager of the Flahs department store in Cortland, building and owning a cosmetics business in the Pyramid mall, being the Executive Housekeeper for the Sheraton Inn, and mainly being a manager of Housekeeping Services for Cornell University.
Liliane is predeceased by her father, Maurice, and survived by her husband, Richard E. Jorgensen of Freeville; mother, Marguerite of France; sons, Michael of Denver, CO, and Brian of Manlius, NY; brother, Michel of France; sisters, Marguerite and Irene of Maine; and grandsons, Matthew and Andrew of Manlius, NY. Liliane was an adventurer and had a storied life leading her sisters to the New World in the early 1960’s. A Cornell student once remarked that: “She’s the classiest lady I’ve ever known.” She had an incredible tolerance for all things, and would win anyone over with her beautiful big green eyes. We love her and we will miss her. A memorial service for Liliane is being planned for sometime in the Spring at the Perkins Funeral Home in Dryden, NY. Burial will be later in the Little Church Cemetery near Hall, NY.
