LILLIAN M. ALOI , age 88, formerly of Dryden and Newark Valley, NY passed away Tuesday, July 18, 2006 at the Tioga Nursing Facility after a lengthy illness. Mrs. Aloi was born May 14, 1918 at Newark Valley a daughter of the late Leon and Tressa Connelly Zimmer. She played girls basketball at the Newark Valley High School. After her first husband, Carlton Settle, died in an accident in 1936 she was married to Harold Marsh. Later she was married to Nicholas Aloi. She was, with Nick, a co-owner and bookkeeper of Aloi Wholesale Produce. Lillian often accompanied Nick on deliveries along their route that stretched from Syracuse to Candor and enjoyed the variety of people that they met. Earlier she was employed for 21 years at Hollenbeck’s IGA in Newark Valley often taking her vacations in one hour increments which enabled her to attend her children’s school events. She was a former member of the Eastern Star and had been an active member of the Newark Valley Grange and the Gem Rebekah Lodge. As a central figure in her loving family, Lillian will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Survivors include her sons, Richard C. (Maryanne) Settle, Donald D. (Helen) Marsh of Newark Valley, Jerald L. (Sara) Marsh of Edinburg, TX and Robert A. (Ann) Marsh of Big Flats; her daughter, Bonnie M. (Robert) McLaud of Berkshire; a brother, Clifford Zimmer and a sister, Pearl Gardner both of Newark Valley; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-nine great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild. She was predeceased by her three brothers, Leslie "Barney", Ransom "Jack" and Robert O. Zimmer and a great great-grandson, Vincent Michael Garrity.

Funeral services will be held at 11 Am Saturday, July 22, 2006 at the Perkins Funeral Home, 55 West Main St., Dryden with Rev. James Willard officiating. Burial will follow in Willow Glen Cemetery, Dryden. Her family will be present at the funeral home to receive friends from 10 am Saturday until the time of the funeral. Memorials, in lieu of flowers, are graciously directed to the American Red Cross, Southern Tier Chapter, 620 East Main St., Endicott, NY 13760.
