LINDA ROSE ALFREDS SCHUMACHER, age 67, of Hunt Hill Road, Ithaca, NY passed away Friday, August 14, 2015 at the Cayuga Medical Center at Ithaca. Linda was born July 25, 1948 in Ithaca, NY a daughter of Jack and Beverly Hotaling Alfreds of Brooktondale. A 1966 graduate of Dryden High School, Linda was employed for many years at the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine where she was the Conference Coordinator.
On July 18, 1996 she was married to George Schumacher who survives. Linda is fondly remembered for her Christmas Extravaganzas; her hospitality, her sense of style and bling, her welcoming personality and the never-ending love of her family. She will be greatly missed.
Survivors include her parents, Jack and Beverly Alfreds; her loving husband, George at home. She was the proud mother of Alan Ritzler, Catherine Ritzler, Ray Ritzler, George Schumacher, Jr., Wendy Wright and Julie Hoaglin; the devoted sister of Deborah (Paul) Short, Pamela (Mac) Safley, Daniel (Vicky) Alfreds and Sylvia (Donald) Short and “Nana” of eleven grandchildren. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, cousins and host of friends. In addition she was predeceased by her brother, Jack Alfreds II in 1999.
A celebration of her life will be held beginning at 2 PM, Saturday, August 22, 2015 at the Dryden Veterans Memorial Home, 2262 Dryden Road, Dryden, NY. Friends are asked to bring a memory and/or story about Linda to share. Memorials are directed to the Dusenberry Sportsmans Club, P.O. 173, Freeville, NY 13068-0173.
