Louis J. "Lou" Emmick

Louis (Lou) Jacob Emmick of 314 Buck Rd., Lansing, NY passed away on Saturday, February 27, 2021 at the Groton Nursing Home at the age of 94.

Born October 4, 1926 in Morris, Pennsylvania, he was the son of Jacob Foster Emmick and Sadie (Breed) Emmick. Lou served in the United States Army 1945-1946 in the Philippines, as a road grader operator, where he received the rank of Sergeant. He was married to Dorothy May Bright for 67 years, who preceded him in death in 2012. Lou was a well-known figure in the Town of Lansing and Tompkins County. As a young man he worked on farms in Lansing and King Ferry. Along with his wife, Dorothy, they owned and operated Lou’s Grocery for 23 years. He was the Tompkins County Sealer of Weights and Measures for 15 years. Lou served on the Lansing Town Board for 12 years, was a life member of the Lansing Fire Department, was a charter member of the Lansing Lions Club, served on the board of Ludlowville Pine Grove Cemetery and was an active member of the Masons.  In addition, Lou drove school bus for Lansing Central School for 45 years. Lou loved Lansing and engaged in many activities to help make the town a place of community.

In addition to his parents, his wife, Dorothy and two sisters, Winifred Bushell and Edith Hucheson, Lou was preceded in death by his daughter, Jill Johnson in 2011.

He is survived by sons, Wayne (Judy) Emmick of Lansing and Darrell (Ella) Emmick of Harford Mills; grandchildren, Tim (Emily) Emmick and their children, Jamie, Jack, Owen and Louis; Michelle (Rick) Steele and their child, Niki Giacco; Nick (Emily) Emmick  and their children, Harper and Hannah; Tracy (Dan) Lajza and their children, Jacob, Mattea and Connor; nieces, nephews and other extended family members.

Lou’s family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff at the Groton Nursing Home for the compassionate assistance given to Lou while in their care.

A private memorial service and burial in Ludlowville Pine Grove Cemetery will be scheduled for a later date.
