Louis O’Brien , 65, of 401 Etna Road, Ithaca, NY died unexpectedly on Saturday, April 12, 2008 at the Cortland Regional Medical Center, Cortland, NY.

Born January 11, 1943 in Locke, NY he was the son of the late James E. and Gladys O"Brien. Louie attended Immaculate Conception School and graduated from Dryden High School. Upon graduating, he entered the U.S. Navy and served until 1964. He retired in 2005 from the United States Postal Service in Groton, NY. He loved helping friends, working around his house, cutting the grass and riding his ATV. He was a member of Dryden Township Post 8158 Veteran’s of Foreign Wars and Leonard T. Spaulding Post 1134 American Legion.

Louie is survived by his wife, Carolyn D. O’Brien of Ithaca, NY; son and daughter in law, Jason and Bronwyn O’Brien of Dryden, NY; stepson, Charles L. DeLand, Jr. of Ithaca, NY grandchildren, Nina Capone and Brinley O’Brien; many brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, April 16, 2008 at Perkins Funeral Home, 55 W. Main St., Dryden, NY, with Military Honors provided by the Dryden Veteran’s Memorial Home Ritual Team. There are no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Louie may be directed to the Upstate NY Transplant Services, Inc., 110 Broadway, Buffalo, NY 14203.
