Louise Harding Abbey
A long-time resident of Columbia Cross Roads, PA, Louise Abbey passed away on August 6, 2012 at the Beechtree Care Center, Ithaca, NY, at the age of 91.
The youngest child of the late William and Alma Harding, Louise was raised on a farm in Gillett where she developed a passion for the outdoors. Louise and Ira “Hi” Abbey were married on September 11, 1946 and worked side-by-side operating the family’s dairy
farm, Abbey’s Knoll, for 34 years until their retirement. They enjoyed traveling and lived many happy years in Florida. Louise enjoyed sewing, needlework and excelled at cooking and baking. From her oyster stew, homemade bread, cinnamon rolls, pickles and pies, it was easy to taste the love she tucked into everything she made.
Louise is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law Ann and Nathan Dykes, Ithaca, NY, and Linda and Benjamin Dykes, Greensboro, NC., a sister-in-law Regina (Herman) Granger, Elmira, NY and a brother-in-law Roland (Marceil) Abbey, Endicott, NY, and many nieces and nephews. Louise was predeceased by her husband in 2004, her parents,
brothers Andrew and William and a sister Estelle Harding Smith.
Interment in the Harkness Cemetery will be at the convenience of the family.
