LYN R. BRIGGS,
age 55, of Central Ave., Cortland, NY passed away Saturday, December 2, 2006 as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile-pedestrian accident that happened November 17, 2006 in Cortland. Lyn was born October 6, 1951 in Elmira a daughter of the late Conrad and Elsie Miller Barnett. Lyn had resided in Ithaca and Brisben, NY prior to relocating to Cortland. Lyn earned her nursing license after recent studies at OCM BOCES in Cortland and had recently begun working at a job she truly loved with Asthma & Allergy Associates in Ithaca and Cortland as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She had previously been employed
at Family and Children’s Services in Ithaca, Cornell University, Raymond Corp. of Green, NY and Broome Developmental Center in Binghamton. Lyn attended Cortland High School, Tompkins Cortland Community College and Empire State University. She was a former member of Brisben Rescue Squad. Lyn had a vibrance and love for life and lived it to the fullest. She was very artistic and passionately enjoyed writing poetry, gardening, stained glass, cooking and making jewelry. But most of all, Lyn had finally found her true calling as an LPN where she lived by the motto, "Do no harm". Lyn was a wonderful mother,
grandmother and friend who will be greatly missed.
Surviving are her children, Donald (Beth) Derr, II of Hightstown, NJ and Lisa (Jeffrey) Breed of Cortland and; two grandchildren, Chelsea Breed and Katelin Derr; her husband, Floyd Briggs; two brothers, John (Joyce) Allen of Elmira and David (Cheryl) Barnett of Newport, Oregon; a sister, Julie (Randy) Hubbard of Cincinnatus, NY; nieces; nephews; cousins and large circle of friends. She was predeceased by a grandchild, Matthew Breed.
Memorial services will be held at 11 AM Wednesday, Dec. 6th, 2006 at the Perkins Funeral Home with Rev. David Welle officiating. Burial will follow in Cortland Rural Cemetery, Cortland. Friends are invited to call from 5 to 8 PM Tuesday at the funeral home, 55 West Main St., Dryden, NY.
