Malcolm D. McConnell, a resident of Summerhill, NY, passed away on Saturday, July 27th, 2024, with family by his side. He was 91 years old.
Malcolm was born on July 29th, 1932, in Pittsburgh, PA. He graduated from Middlebury College and served his country in the Army from 1954 to 1956, including a tour on the Korean Peninsula. After the service, he pursued his passion for geology and earned a Master's degree from the University of Wyoming. Malcolm then embarked on a successful career at the General Electric R&D Center in Schenectady, NY.
In 1958, Malcolm married the love of his life, Joan Henricksen. Together, they built a life centered on family, faith, and a love for the outdoors. Malcolm instilled in their four children – Malcolm "Steve" McConnell, Laurie Collinsworth, Gregg McConnell, and Sandra Eells – the values of family time, adventure, and a strong commitment to Jesus Christ. He led them on countless outdoor expeditions, creating cherished memories that extended well into their adult years. Malcolm cherished his time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, finding great joy in their presence.
Malcolm was a faithful member of various churches throughout his life, including Faith Baptist Church in Rexford, NY, Dresserville Bible Baptist Church in Sempronius, NY, and Church of the Redeemer in Cortland, NY. He actively participated in church activities and leadership, leaving a lasting impact on both the congregations and the many friends he made along the way.
Malcolm leaves behind his devoted wife of 66 years, Joan H. McConnell, his four children, and a loving extended family of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his siblings, Barbara Daniels, Richard McConnell, Mary Ellen Pratt, and Helen Copeland.
A Celebration of Life service will be held to celebrate Malcolm's life on Saturday, August 10th, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Dresserville Bible Baptist Church, located at 6339 Crofoot Road, Moravia, NY 13118. The service will be followed by a luncheon. For those unable to attend in person, the service will be streamed live on the church's YouTube channel.
