MARION ALICE WITKO, age 87, formerly of Dryden, NY passed away Monday, Feb. 20, 2012 at Cortland Park Rehabilitation Center. Mrs. Witko was born December 8, 1924 in Albany, NY a daughter of the late Thomas and Maude Bernochi Carey. She was a 1940 graduate of St. Mary’s Academy in Hudson, NY and from Hudson City Hospital School of Nursing. On May 4, 1946 she was married to Edward Witko at St. Mary’s Church in Hudson. The Witko’s resided in Springfield, MA, Berlin, NY, Phoenicia, NY and finally relocated to Dryden, NY in 1967 where she was the Elementary School Nurse for many years. After retirement they enjoyed 30 winters in Vero Beach, FL. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and a member of the former Dryden Footlighters. Marion was an avid Bridge player and most of all, enjoyed her family with a special love for her grandchildren.Survivors include her children, Susan (Noah Kline) Plunkett of Manhattan, Stanley (Jing) Witko of Dryden, Anne (Robert) Timmerman and Edward (Linda Pealo) Witko, Jr. of Dryden; grandchildren, Jessica Van Sickle, Megan (Jason) DeHass, Stanley Witko, Jr., Jordan and Christopher Witko, Anastasia Khadivi; great-grandchildren, Isaac and Leif DeHass; nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Edward Witko, Sr. and her brother, Thomas Carey.A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 AM, Saturday, February 25, 2012 at Holy Cross Church, 375 George Road, Freeville, NY with Rev. Malachy Nwoso as celebrant. Burial will be in Willow Glen Cemetery, Dryden. Friends are invited to call from 4 to 6 PM, Friday, at the Perkins Funeral Home, 55 West Main St., Dryden. Those wishing to remember Marion are asked to consider a memorial to Holy Cross Church, 375 George Rd., Freeville, NY 13068.
