Mark E. Searle, age 55 of Scenic Way, Freeville, NY passed away Thursday, February 28, 2013 at Cayuga Medical Center, Ithaca, NY. Born January 5, 1958 in Syracuse, NY he is the son of the late Homer and Barbara Dufore Searle. In 1978 he married Suzanne Shattell in Syracuse. He was employed with NYSEG in Ithaca, NY as a Senior Systems Engineer prior to becoming a ?Gentleman of Leisure" in 2002.
Mark is survived by his wife, Suzanne Searle at home; children, Andrea (Alex)Traina of Rochester, NY, Michael (fiance’ Mandy Williams) Searle of Rochester, NY and Emilie Searle of Freeville, NY; many loving in-laws, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Gary Searle.
He was a volunteer at local animal shelters wherever he lived and opened his home to many animals through the years. He was very interested in military war games playing them since the age of 14. TNG (Tuesday night gaming) was spent playing these games. He was an avid history buff; there isn’t a war ship in history that he couldn’t identify. He co-authored several military style games and associated websites. He was a pizza connoisseur with a very particular taste. He had a great sense of humor and always said his fondest achievement was winning the soap box derby at age 9. He had a brilliant mind, and a soft heart and broad shoulders to carry his precious wife and children through much adversity. His loving selflessness in his adversity, taught his family that even when you get poured out of your wheelchair into the water hazard at the mini golf course, you get up, keep going and finish the game.

A celebration of Mark’s life will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at Grace Christian Fellowship, 1250 Fisher Ave., Cortland, NY with Pastor Michael Dunn officiating. The family will greet guests following the service.
