MARLEA CELESTE KNECHT, 86, passed away September 11, 2004 after a long illness. She was born on August 11, 1918 in Virgil, NY to the late George and Frances Tyler Pond. Her husband of 55 years, Homer Knecht and a brother, Tyler Pond, predeceased her. She is survived by her daughters, Arlene Roth of Albuquerque, NM, Linda Williams of Marcellus, NY and Janet Beaudette of Hershey, PA; her sons-in-law, Robert Williams, and Robert Beaudette; her grandchildren, Eric Roth, Ryan Williams, Rosa and Traci Beaudette. She was a resident of Virgil until moving to Cortland, NY. Marlea was a 1936 graduate of Virgil Central School and a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church where she was the treasurer for many years. She was a member of the Virgil Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary and also organized a Girls Club of Virgil. She was employed at Cobakco Baking Co. And retired from Smith Corona in Cortland in 1981. After retirement she and her husband lived winters in Zephyrhills, FL prior to his death in 1996. She was a wonderful mother, homemaker and wife. She will be deeply missed. Funeral services will be held at 1 PM Saturday, Sept. 25, 2004 at the Perkins Funeral Home, 55 West Main St., Dryden, NY. Burial will follow in Virgil Rural Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations for research be made in Marlea’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 North Michigan Ave., Suite 1700, Chicago, IL 60601-7633 or call 1-800-272-3900.
