MARLENE E. THOMAS age 76, of 426 NYS Rt. 13, Cortland, NY passed away Monday, Jan. 28, 2013 at her home. Marlene was born Feb. 15, 1936 in Cortland, a daughter of Margaret Robbins Maricle of Syracuse and the late Carl Roy Maricle. She was graduated from Cortland High School and was employed for many years at Smith Corona. On Feb. 15, 2007 she was united in marriage to Edward E. Thomas, the love of her life. Marlene enjoyed her family, reading, her dog Lucy, and trips to Old Forge and the Adirondack Mountains which always included a stop at the Old Forge Hardware Store. Marlene will be greatly missed. Her untimely death leaves a great void in her family and her circle of friends.

Survivors include her husband, Edward Thomas; her daughters, Tanya (Mark) MacNaughton of Farmington, NY , Julie Phillips of Virginia Beach, VA, and a stepson, Jeffrey (Bill Moorer) Thomas of Charlotte, NC; siblings Carlton (Allison) Maricle, Milton “Butch” (Marcia) Robbins, Michelle (Kent) Finkelstein, Kim (Randy) Holl, Kevin (Mary) Maricle; seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins and long time friends, Anne Fitzgerald and Mary Pettit. She was predeceased by a daughter, Lisa Tinker and a step-daughter, Dawn Hemenway.

Services will be held at 12 PM, Friday, Feb. 1, 2013, at the Perkins Funeral Home with Rev. Lucian Urbaniak officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Cortland. Friends are invited to call from 11 to 12 PM, Friday at the funeral home, 55 West Main St., Dryden, NY. Memorials are directed to the SPCA, 479 Hanshaw Road, Ithaca, NY 14850 or to the Justin Jenkins Education Fund, 5894 King Hill Dr., Farmington, NY 14425.
