Martha P. "Marty" (Hewes) Monroe

OBITUARY RELEASE

Martha P. “Marty” Monroe, age 72 of Buffalo Road, Brooktondale, NY passed away Monday, February 8, 2021 at Cayuga Medical Center after a brief illness.

Born May 30, 1948 in Sherwood, NY she was the daughter of the late Albert Hewes and Mildred Ward Hewes.  Marty was a 1966 graduate of the newly combined Southern Cayuga Central School District.  She was a waitress at Woolworth’s Five and Dime where she met Edward C. Monroe in 1975. After a three week courtship, they were married at the Friends Meeting House in Poplar Ridge, NY. She also was a waitress at the Ithaca Diner and Jim’s Place which is now the Dandy Mart in Slaterville Springs.

Marty is survived by her husband of 45 years, Edward C. Monroe at home; her son, Charles Albert Monroe (finace` Elisa Slater); granddaughter, Lily Jean Monroe; sister, Susan Clark; four step children and several nieces and nephews. In addition, she was predeceased by brothers, David and Arthur Hewes and sister and brother in law, Ruth and Jim Spicer.

Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
