Martha Jane Peer

Martha J. Peer, 80, of Virgil NY passed away peacefully on December 20, 2016 at the Cortland Regional Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.

Martha was born April 26, 1936 in Marcellus to the late Walter Scott and Leah Scott Nickerson.

She graduated from Union Springs High School and retired from Cortland Memorial Hospital in 1998 after working there for 24 years.

Martha is predeceased by her daughter Linda Peer Orioli in September 2016 and her sister Louise Young.

Martha is survived by her loving husband of over 50 years, Richard L. Peer also of Virgil. Over the last year Richard dedicated every effort to taking care of Martha so that they could stay in their house "on the mountain" they loved and shared for close to 30 years.

Martha is also survived by her sisters and best friends, Mary Lou Storrier and Jeanne Hoose, her three daughters, Vicki (Gregory) Fuerst, of Avoca, NY, Diane (Charles) Corsi, of Cortland, and Denise (Michael) McCole, of Auburn, NY; grandchildren Andrew Fuerst, Carly (Joshua) Meacham, Bradley Fuerst, and Leah Fuerst and her fiancée, Brian Kidder, Paul and Erin Corsi, Katie and Kristi Orioli, Sean and Meghan McCole; and great grandchildren Rhys and Cole Meacham. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Martha loved garage sales and antiques. She had an eye for hidden treasures and enjoyed selling her finds on Ebay for many years. She loved music, and many a family gathering included Martha singing harmony by ear. Martha was known for always managing to purchase the winning lottery ticket or finding the only 4 leaf clover. She also had a wonderful sense of humor and never missed an opportunity to be kind, especially to animals.

Above all Martha loved her family; Her husband, daughters and grandchildren were a source of great joy and pride.

In keeping with Martha's wishes, there will be no calling hours. Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
