Mary Carberry Bloom

MARY CARBERRY BLOOM, age 84, of Lake St., Ithaca, NY and formerly of Etna and Elmira, NY died Wednesday, March 29, 2006 at the Hospicare Residence, Ithaca, NY after a four month illness. Mary was born Feb. 17, 1922 in Etna and was a daughter of the late Harry E. And Fern Banks Carberry. Mary was graduated in the Class of 1940 from Dryden High School and began her working career at the Home Dairy in Ithaca. She was employed at Ithaca Gun during WW II. She resided in Elmira, NY from 1959 to 1971 and when returning to the Ithaca area was once again employed at Ithaca Gun Co. Later she worked for 18 years at the Tompkins County Hospital. A person of great faith, Mary was an active and devoted member of the Etna Baptist Community Church. She was a member of the Etna Community Assoc. and the Etna Women’s Club. She enjoyed her rich Etna community heritage and continuing friendships from childhood. Mary always looked forward to attending the Dryden alumni reunions. She was formerly married to the late Charles W. Bloom.

Survivors include her children, Jennifer M. (Robert Buonasera) Bloom of Boulder Creek, CA , Jeffrey M. Bloom of Carson City, NV and Andrew C. Bloom of Elmira, NY; her grandchildren, Tracy, Allison, Shannon and Daniel; a sister-in-law, Mary Koski Carberry of Etna, many devoted nieces; nephews. Mary was predeceased by a son, Richard Charles Bloom and her siblings, Edward, Walter, George, Donald and Richard Carberry; Florence Carberry and Virginia Carberry Stine.

Funeral services will be at 10 AM Saturday, April 1, 2006 at the Etna Baptist Church. Burial will be in Willow Glen Cemetery, Dryden. Friends are invited to call from 7 to 9 PM Friday at the Perkins Funeral Home, 55 West Main St., Dryden. Those wishing to remember Mary are asked to consider a memorial, in lieu of flowers, to the Etna Baptist Church, P.O. Box Etna, NY 13062.
