MARY JOSEPHINE TURNOWICZ, age 98, of Cortland and formerly of Marathon, NY, passed away peacefully at the Crown Center after an extended illness. Mary was born Oct. 24, 1916 in Harrison, NY, a daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret McLaverty Toman . She was a graduate of Harrison High School and Towa Nurses School. Her husband, Joseph Stanley Turnowicz, to whom she was married on Nov. 29, 1942, passed away April 29, 2002. Mary was a Registered Nurse, a wife, a mother, a grandmother and homemaker.
Survivors include her children, Joann Fritz of Cortland, Joseph Turnowicz, Suzann Turetsky , Eileen Turnowicz and Gerald Turnowicz; thirteen grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins. She was the last survivor of 12 siblings.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM, Friday, April 17, 2015 at St. Stephens’s Catholic Church, Marathon, NY. Burial will be in Virgil Rural Cemetery. Friends are invited to call from 4 to 6 PM, Thursday at the Perkins Funeral Home, 55 West Main Street, Dryden.
