Melvin Wallace Mitchell

MELVIN W. MITCHELL, age 85, of Dryden, NY went home to his Lord and Savior on Friday, December 8, 2017 at the Crown Park Care Center after a brief illness. Melvin was born January 26, 1932 in East Orange, NJ. He was the youngest son of the late James and Cora Staggs Mitchell. His family relocated to Tompkins County in 1942. At the age of 19 he began working for his brother-in-law at the Ithaca Dental Lab where he became the owner in 1984. He continued to work at the lab until becoming ill two weeks ago.
Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Marilou Dann Mitchell of Dryden and children, Edward (Norma) Mitchell of Pocomoke City, MD, Brian (Michele) Mitchell of Elmira, Gregory (Carol) Mitchell of Ithaca, Kevin Mitchell of Ithaca, Claud (Jessica) Mitchell of McGraw and Brenda Lee of Freeville; three siblings, Simon Mitchell of E. Orange, NJ, Cecelia Dunham of Trumansburg and Elaine Feagan of Ithaca; eight grandchildren and several great-grandchildren as well as nieces, nephews and cousins and extended family members. He was predeceased by his parents and ten siblings.
Memorial services will be held at 11 AM, Friday, December 15, 2017 at Calvary Baptist Church, Harford, NY with Rev. James Owens officiating. Burial will be private in Green Hills Cemetery, Dryden.
