M. Laraine Derr

M. Laraine Rollins Derr (89) of Rochester, NY passed away on 3 July 2022 at Strong Hospital in Rochester.  She was born on 10 Aug. 1932 in Cortland Hospital, Cortland, NY.  She is survived by her loving husband, David Carey Derr Sr; son, Terry Burns(Noela); step-children, Susan Rose(Ken), James Derr (Debbie), Douglas Derr (Donna), David Derr Jr, Linda Moody(Devon), and John Derr; siblings, Harley Rollins Jr. (Debi), Beatrice Mackey, Diane Hill (Jim) and Marlene Dixon; grandchildren, Robert  Burns, Joshua Burns, Lara Cribb, Amber Hinson, Anthony  Burns, Jeffrey Burns, Justin L. Burns, James Derr, Luke Derr, Cody Rose, Billy Rose, Melinda Bailey, Marcus Moody, Danielle Latham, Dixie Derr, Katie Derr, Isabella Derr and Josephine Derr; several great grandchildren; members of the Ketola family; as well as countless other relatives and friends whose lives Laraine touched. Laraine was predeceased by her parents, Harley and Hilda Ketola Rollins; as well as her sons and daughters-in-law, Robert Burns (Barbara) and Alan Burns (Susan).

Her many early achievements include being a stunt double for Susan Hayward in Hollywood, and interactions in Washington, D.C.  Her more recent interactions involved her grandchildren. Laraine had many hobbies and activities she enjoyed including collecting dolls, making doll clothing, watching her rose bushes bloom, and watching old movies. She loved to talk and learn about history. Her love of little children was evident to the point that in the past year, when a health-care assistant brought her 1-year-old son along once, Laraine insisted she bring him every visit since, so that both she and Dave could talk and play with him.  Her laugh and smile will be sorely missed by many.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 25th at 11:00am at Perkins Funeral Home, 55 W. Main St., Dryden, NY.  Burial will follow in Willow Glen Cemetery, Dryden. Condolences may be made to Laraine’s family at www.perkinsfh.com.
