MORGAN B. McALLISTER
of 1079 Babcock Hollow Rd., Marathon, NY passed away Dec. 23, 2005 at home surrounded by his loving family after a brave battle with lung and liver cancer. Morgan was born Feb. 16, 1918 in Brooklyn, NY, the son of the late Morgan L. McAllister and Hazel L. Bailey McAllister. Morgan was raised in South Cortland, his family spent a few years in Arizona before returning to the area and taking up residence on Babcock Hollow Rd until his death. He served in the U.S. Army from 1940 – 1945 during WWII as an M.P. in the 2nd Infantry Division. He was stationed in N. Ireland, France
Belgium and Germany. While stationed in N. Ireland he met and married the love of his life Elizabeth (Jean) McClure in 1945 and brought her back to the U.S. after WWII.
Morgan had several occupations during his lifetime. He worked at the Wickwire steel factory, in the Cortland Hospital laundry room; at Pall Trinity as a mail clerk and retired from Smith Corona. He also was a self employed landscaper. Morgan loved gardening, working in his greenhouse, collecting antiques, reading and caring for his menagerie of animals of which he leaves behind his two dogs, his beloved and faithful companions, R.J. and Casie. Morgan was a long time member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses Congregation in Marathon, NY. He was also a member of Marathon Post #617, American Legion.
He is survived by his son Robert (Barabara) McAllister of Harford, his daughter Hazel McAllister of Harford, 5 grandchildren Gloria (Randy) Wood, Toni (Steve) McAllister, Stacey (Thomas) Larkin, Bobbie Jo (John) Shepard, and William (Holly) McAllister all from the Marathon, Virgil and Lisle areas, 10 great grand children Michael McAllister, Steven and Morgan Larkin, Darien and Dawson Shepard, Hannah and Hunter McAllister and Randy, Casie and Chelsea Wood. A brother Peter (Marcia) McAllister of Georgia and a sister Jane (Robert) Keller of Marathon NY and several nieces also survive him.
Morgan was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Jean McAllister who died in 2004; his parents and a brother, Harold.
Memorial Services will be held at 2 PM Friday, Dec. 30th, 2005 at the Perkins Funeral Home. Burial will be later in Virgil Rural Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, 55 W. Main St., Dryden from 12 to 2 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Cortland Co. SPCA, 879 McLean Road, Cortland, NY or a charity of one’s choice.
