Nellie H. Rice

NELLIE H. RICE, age 93, formerly of 7 Groton Ave., Freeville, NY died Friday, March 3, 2006 at the Cortland Care Center, Cortland, NY. Mrs. Rice was born October 24, 1912 at Harford, NY a daughter of the late Frink and Lucy Smith Hutchings. On November 26th 1933 she was married to Kenneth W. Rice who passed away November 27, 1995. Nellie was a long time resident of Groton Avenue in Freeville and was a devoted member of the United Methodist Church of Freeville. She had at one time been employed by the Leigh Valley Railroad and later was the Postmaster in Freeville. She retired from the George Junior Republic.

Several nieces; nephews; cousins and friends survive including Mary (Robert) Gittens, Lucy Wright, Lawrence (Frances) Hutchings, Ernest Hutchings, Gary (Doris) Hutchings, Sylvia Hutchings, Barbara Whittaker, Mary Jane Uttech, Helen Westfall to name only a few. She was predeceased by her brothers, Raymond and Clarence Hutchings and a special nephew, Clyde Hutchings, Sr.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Wednesday, March 8th at the United Methodist Church of Freeville with Rev. Dale Austin, pastor of that church, officiating. Burial, delayed until spring, will be in Highland Cemetery, Richford, NY. Friends are invited to call from 10 to 11 AM Wednesday at the church.
