PETER WOOD VAN SICKLE, age 65, of West Main Street, Dryden, NY passed away Monday, Feb. 13, 2012 at the Cayuga Medical Center at Ithaca, NY after an extended illness. “Pete” was born in Ithaca on Feb. 4, 1947 the son of the late C. Kenneth and Genevieve Wood Van Sickle. He was graduated from Dryden High School in 1965 followed by SUNY Cortland with a BA in History in 1969. After college he and a friend traveled the world hitchhiking through many European countries. A life area resident, Peter was an avid sports fan and could discuss Cornell, Ithaca College and Syracuse sports at any time. A devoted father and grandfather, Pete also had a life interest in History and enjoyed discussions of the World Wars and their effect on world politics. Peter was a member of the Dryden Township Historical Society. He was a painter and retired from Duthie Painting. Survivors include his daughters, Megan “Jason” De Haas of Dryden and Jessica Van Sickle of Interlaken, NY; his sister, Betsey Van Sickle of Dryden; grandchildren, Leif and Isaac De Haas of Dryden and several cousins.Funeral services will be held at 10 AM, Friday, Feb. 17, 2012, at the Perkins Funeral Home with Rev. David C. Robinson officiating. Burial, delayed, will be in Willow Glen Cemetery, Dryden. Friends are invited to call from 4 to 6 PM Thursday at the funeral home, 55 West Main Street, Dryden, NY 13053.
