PHILIP NICELY, age 75, of Ed Hill Road, Freeville, NY died Thursday, June 23, 2005 at the Cortland Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness. Mr. Nicely was born Sept. 17, 1929 at Ligonier, PA a son of the late William S. and Edna Hoon Nicely. Phil served in the US Marine Corps from 1947 to 1949 and was married to the former Marie Quigg on April 15, 1949. A Chief Lineman with NYSEG, Phil retired after 38 years service. He was a long time resident of Ed Hill Road where he also ran the family farm for many years. He was a member of Carrington-Fuller Post #800, American Legion.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Marie at home, his children, Anthony W. Nicely of Cortland, Connie (Howard) Odell of Groton, Philip H. Nicely of Freeville, James E. (Paula) Nicely of Jacksonville, FL, Corinne N. (Robert) Albro of Cortland; his sister, Marilla Jean (Leslie) Stevens of Cortland; twenty grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 10 AM Monday, June 27, 2005 at the Perkins Funeral Home, with Rev. Dale Austin of the Freeville United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Willow Glen Cemetery where members of American Legion Post #800 will offer military honors. Friends are invited to call from 6 to 8 PM Sunday at the funeral home, 55 West Main St., Dryden, NY. Friends are invited to a reception at the Groton Legion following the cemetery service. Memorials are directed to the Dryden Amb. Fund, P.O. Box 397, Dryden, NY 13053-0397 or the W.B. Strong Vol. Fire Co., P.O. Box 129, Freeville, NY 13068-0129.
