Phyllis Adelaide Apgar Dains, 79 of Homer, NY passed away Thursday, November 4, 2021 at Guthrie Cortland Medical Center following an encounter with COVID.

Phyllis was born in Dryden, NY on October 22, 1942 a daughter of the late Kenneth William and Helen Marie (Stedman) Apgar. In addition, she was predeceased by her daughter, Lesley Dains; son, Zachary Derek Dains; grandson, Kyle Kopsa; brothers, Perry Apgar of Orangeburg, SC, Glenn Apgar of Wellsburg, NY, Gean Apgar of Horseheads, NY; Andrew Apgar, nephew; great granddaughter Cassidy Dains.

She attended local schools and worked for the Homer School System. She then began her 30 year career in Home Care for Cortland County where she touched the life of so many. She was known for her sarcastic wit and family values.

Phyllis is survived by her devoted husband of 63 years, Harry R. Dains; son, Harry (Maura) Dains Jr. of Baldwinsville; NY; daughters, Rita (Meredith Kellogg) Dains of Homer, NY, Rhonda Dains Wheaton of Marathon, NY and Rachell (John) Kopsa of Interlaken, NY; 10 grandchildren, Nicole (Adrian) Pless, Danyel (Matthew) Jacobs, Adam Freed, Chad Parker, Chase Parker, Seth (Tiffany) Wheaton, Matt Dains, Angela Dains, Monique Kenny and Kendra Kopsa; 13 great grandchildren; brothers, Kenneth A. (Patricia) Apgar of Dryden, NY and Lonnie Apgar of Orangeburg, SC; sisters, Verla (Jarvis) Fletcher of Topeka, KS, Leah Gordon of Topeka, KS, Vivian (Bill) Guthrie of Mt. Orin, OH and Becky Apgar of Ithaca, NY; several nieces and nephews and other extended family members to include Mikey Gordon, Rob Cullember, John Freed and Nova Sherwood.

Phyllis’ wishes were for services to be private, with only vaccinated in attendance. It was her hope that others would stop being selfish and get vaccinated to save their loved ones. Her ending did not need to be this soon. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Multiple Sclerosis Resources of CNY, PO Box 237, East Syracuse, NY 13057.  Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Perkins Funeral Home, Dryden, NY.
