Ralph H. Canfield

RALPH H. CANFIELD, Sr., age 90, of 132 NYS Rt. 200, Harford Mills, NY passed away Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2011 at the Groton Nursing Facility after a period of declining health. Ralph was born July 9, 1921 in Cortland, a son of the late Claude P. Sr. and Evelyn Horton Canfield. Ralph served in the US Army Air Corps during WW II and was a life member of the Marathon Fire Dept. and Emergency Squad, a member of the Harford Fire Dept. and the Marathon American Legion.He was retired from Grumman Boat Factory in Marathon, NY and had been an employee of Baker and Short Lumber, Pall Trinity in Cortland and was also a self employed carpenter.Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Emma C. Bevis Canfield of Groton, his children, Ralph, Jr. and Pat Canfield of Marathon, Tom Canfield of Newark Valley, Gary Canfield of Harford Mills and Emma and Fred Walker of McGraw, Mary (Glen) Brickey of Locke; twelve grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; siblings, Claude Canfield, Jr., Clare Canfield, Charles Canfield, Evelyn “Betty” Fritts, Ruth Evener; nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by and his parents and his brother, Robert Canfield.Memorial services will be held at 11 AM, Monday, Sept. 19, 2011 at the Perkins Funeral Home with Rev. Jack Ford officiating. Burial, with military honors provided by members of the Dryden Veterans Memorial Home Ritual Team, will follow in Highland Cemetery, Richford.
