RICHARD E. “DICK” BLACKMAN, age 84, Freeville, NY passed away Saturday, Dec. 20, 2014 at the Cayuga Medical Center after a brief illness. Dick was born in Ithaca on July 1, 1930, a son of the late Austin and Velma Ellis Blackman. He was graduated from Dryden High School and entered the US Marine Corps in 1952 serving in Puerto Rico before discharge in 1954. Dick was a member and Past Chief of the W.B. Strong Vol. Fire Company, a member of the Leonard T. Spaulding Post 1134, American Legion and was a member and Trustee of the United Methodist Church of Freeville. Additionally Dick was a member of the Town of Dryden Historical Society. His death leaves a wide void in his family and in the Freeville Community.

Survivors include his loving wife of 64 years, Edith McConnell Blackman; his son, Scott (Kristen) Blackman of Freeville; daughters, Melanie (Larry) Allen of Freeville, Lynn (Kevin) King of Cortland and Teri (Terry) Krom of Tully; grandchildren, Daniel Decker, Shannon King Root, Cortney King, Austin Krom, Olivia Krom, Eric Blackman and Gabrielle Quarella; five great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Alice Blackman and a granddaughter, Danielle Decker.

Memorial services will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, January 3, 2015 at the United Methodist Church of Freeville. Burial with military honors will be private in Willow Glen Cemetery, Dryden. Memorials are directed to the Freeville UMC Food Pantry, P.O. Box 166, Freeville, NY 13068
