Richard M. Day, of Ithaca, NY passed away peacefully at home at the age of 88, surrounded by his loving family on Friday, March 17, 2017 of complications from PSP (Progressive Supra-nuclear Palsy).
Born September 15, 1928 in Binghamton, NY he was the son of the late Harrison and Lillian (Getz) Day. On April 28, 1951 he married the former Phyllis Hart. This year they would have celebrated 66 years of a beautiful life together. Dick proudly served his country with the US Army during the Korean War. In 1986, he retired from Verizon and NY Telephone after 39 years. Dick was always puttering with something, whether it be around his house or his cottage in Canada, which brought many years of joy to him, his family and friends. He was also very meticulous in everything he did, whether it be the lawn, flowers or anything around his home, which made his illness that much more difficult for him. Dick was a member of the NY Telephone Pioneers, Trumansburg American Legion Post #770 and a lifetime member of Fidelity Lodge #51, F & A.M.
Dick was a very loving husband, father and grandfather who will be missed tremendously by those who survive; his beloved wife, Phyllis at home; daughter, Janet Ramp (Jack McCord); daughter in law, Christine (Davenport) Day; grandchildren, Megan (Frank) Carson, Randall (Heather) Day and Steven Day; great grandchildren, Lydia and Waylon Day; step great grandchildren, Angel, Frankie, Jason and Michael Carson; brother in law and wife, Don and Val Hart; sister in law, Betty Warren; nephews, Robert (Kathy) Day, Mike (Cindi) Day and numerous great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Dick was predeceased by his son, Steven and son in law, Chip Ramp; his brother and sister in law, Robert and Betty Day; mother in law and father in law, Raymond and Erma Hart and his brother in law, Howard Warren.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to his second daughter, Janet and Larry Lattin, and caregivers, Hannah Crispell, Stephanie Granderson, Lizbeth Pirko, Chris Ribble and a great neighbor, Louise Wennerstroem. The family also sends a big thank you to Liz Fraboni and the Bath VA and Amanda McLaughlin and Hospicare.
