Richard P. Flaville

Richard P. Flaville Sr., age 88, passed away on the morning of November 15th, in his home, surrounded by loved ones. Though he was a native of Philadelphia and loved the Jersey shore, he was happy to call Ithaca his home the last 46 years.
Left to cherish his memory and legacy is his companion of 33 years, Dooley Kiefer, a son, Richard Jr, two daughters, Marcy Byrne and Lorrie Fitzgibbons, seven grandchildren and great grandchildren, and many friends. Richard will be met in heaven by two sons that pre-deceased him, Steve and Joe.
He had a love of reading (sometimes five books at a time), music of all kinds, and all things sports, especially Philadelphia sports teams. Always keeping an open mind, he found interest in so many things ranging from ballet to opera, to horse racing. Richard spent hours volunteering in many capacities in the area and remained humble about it. He found humor in almost any situation and was great at telling stories and jokes. Richard was a self-made man and former owner of Tallmadge Tire Service in Ithaca, where customers could discuss with him anything from books, to music and theater. He always said he never met a book, a beer, or a ballgame that he didn't like. In recent years the highlight of his week was meeting with a men's breakfast club for cancer survivors on Friday mornings.
A Celebration of Life will be held on December 9th at 11 AM at Stella's Barn, 1346 Elmira Rd., Newfield, NY, followed by a luncheon. Anyone wishing to share a memory at that time is welcome to do so. Steve Lawrence will be the Celebrant in charge.
