Robert J. Hand, age 78, of Puderbaugh Road, Virgil, NY passed away peacefully from this life at Hospicare of Ithaca on Saturday, March 31, 2012.Born October 2, 1933 in Cobleskill, NY he was the son of the late Charles and Gertrude Kiner Hand.

He was a resident of the Groton, Dryden and Virgil areas for many years. He was a meat cutter by trade and owned his own store in Herkimer, NY, later moving to Groton and working at the Victory Market. He later took a position at the Cornell University Meat Market. When the Meat Market closed, he took a position as an animal attendant, at the Teaching and Research Farm in Harford, NY, retiring in 1990. A jack of all trades, he was a true sportsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was also an avid gardener, especially for the wildlife. He was an antique enthusiast both as a collector and in retirement as a dealer. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean War Era.

Bob is survived by his wife, Bonnie Puderbaugh Hand; sister, Betty (Brian) Carney; stepson, Chuck (Adrian) Lucas; grandsons, Caleb and Jacob; sister in law, Diana Puderbaugh; niece, Jodi; nephew, Mike; his canine companion, Obie and special friends, Pete Hans and Mary Beth Wright. He also has three daughters, Diane, Linda and Debbie.At Bob’s request there will be no formal services or calling hours.
