ROBERT L. KNAPP, Sr. age 76, of Groton, NY passed away Friday, May 1, 2015 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse after a lengthy illness. “Bob” was born March 3, 1939 in Dryden. He was a son of the late Harold and Winifred Chaffee Knapp. A 1957 graduate of Dryden High School, Bob was a life resident of this area. On May 25, 1957 he was married to the former Joan Senecal in Virgil, NY. He was employed at Morse Chain and was the manager and owner of Chaffee Chocolate Shop in Cortland along with his mother. Later he was a cook at Frank & Mary’s Diner in Cortland where he worked before becoming disabled. Bob enjoyed fishing, hunting and playing golf. Most of all, he enjoyed good times with his family and friends.
Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years, Joan, at home, his children, Robert (Meta) Knapp, Jr. of Groton, Jeffrey Knapp of Rimrock, AZ, Gary Knapp of Groton, Loretta Horner of Cuyler, Linda Bell of Cazenovia and Lisa Knapp of Groton; his sisters, Bonny (Alan) Watrous of Brooksville, FL and Deborah Chaffee of Dryden; ten grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; an aunt, Helen Chaffee; nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by two grandsons, Lee Robert Knapp and Kyle Joseph Knapp and a brother, Harold.
Memorial services will be held at 11 AM Friday, May 8, 2015 at the Perkins Funeral Home, 55 West Main Street, Dryden, NY, with Rev. David H. Nicholls officiating. Burial will be private. There are no calling hours.
