ROBERT T. LORENZEN, age 94, of 21 Union St., Dryden, NY, a retired Cornell Professor of Ag. Engineering, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, December 4, 2011. Bob was born February 16, 1917 in New Leipzig, ND a son of the late Theodore and Hattie Marek Lorenzen. He was graduated from New Leipzig High School in 1935, and served in the Civilian Conservation Corps from 1936 to 1939. He also was graduated from North Dakota State University, Fargo in 1943, from University of Wisconsin, Madison in 1954 and from University of California in 1957

Professor Lorenzen served in many academic positions including the Univ. of Wisconsin, Univ. of California, Davis, Colorado State Univ. and Cornell Univ. in the Agriculture College for 23 years which included teaching, research and extension service. His was first married to Mary Junkman Lorenzen who passed away in 1992. In Oct. 16, 1993 he was married to Margaret Thacher Brownell of Dryden who survives.

Bob served as a First Lieutenant in the US Army and saw duty in the European Theater of Operations receiving two Purple Heart Awards. He was a member of several Academic Societies and was a Past Member of the St. Luke Lutheran Church and was a current member of The First Presbyterian Church of Dryden.Survivors include his loving wife, Margaret of Dryden; step children, Kathlene (David) Gross of Dryden, Gary (Judith) Brownell of Freeville and William Brownell; eight step-grandchildren; four step great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1 PM, Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011 at The First Presbyterian Church of Dryden with Rev. David C. Robinson officiating. Burial, with military honors provided by members of the Dryden Veterans Memorial Home Ritual Team, will be in Green Hills Cemetery, Dryden. Friends are invited to call from 3 to 5 PM Tuesday at the Perkins Funeral Home, 55 West Main St., Dryden, and from 12 PM to 1 PM at the church prior to the funeral.
