Dr. Robert G. Marshall,
age 91, of Ithaca, NY and formerly of St. Michaels and Easton, MD passed away Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at Beechtree Care Center in Ithaca. Born February 19, 1919 in Houston, TX, he was the son of the late Luther P. and Nancy E. May Marshall. Dr. Marshall received his BA and MA from Rice University prior to entering the US Army in 1942. He served as Captain/Criminal Investigator in the Corp of Military Police mostly in North Africa and Italy. He was honorably discharged in 1946. Following the war, he went on to earn his PhD from Yale University where he met his future wife, Kathryn Keller. They were married August 27, 1949. She passed away in 1993. Dr. Marshall was a professor of Romance Languages at Wells College, Aurora, NY. He left in 1972 as Chair of the Romance Languages Dept. accepting a position to teach at Sweet Briar College in Sweet Briar, VA. There he was the Director of the Junior Year Abroad Program in France.
Survivors include his children, Christoph P. (Kristine) Marshall of Lansing, NY; Dr. Ann P. Marshall of Honolulu, HI and Philip S. Marshall of Madison Heights, VA and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11 am, Friday, April 9, 2010 at Christ Church in St. Michaels, MD 301 S. Talbot St., St. Michaels, 21663 with Rev. Abigail Crozier Nestlehutt officiating. Burial will be in the St. David’s Episcopal Church Cemetery, Wayne, PA at 1 pm, Saturday, April 10, 2010. Those wishing to remember Dr. Marshall are asked to consider a memorial to the Robert G.
