Robert Stephen Miller of Ithaca, New York, passed away on Wednesday, October 18.
Robert was born in Ithaca on April 26, 1939, and spent the final years of his life as he wished: living in his childhood home. He is survived by his daughter Meredith of Washington, D.C.; his son Greg and daughter-in-law Cathie of New York, N.Y.; and his brother James and sister Carol of Houston, Texas. Robert was predeceased by his mother Viola and father John, his first wife Elaine and his second wife Marcia.
Robert had a long and successful career as a corporate finance executive at companies including RCA, Fairchild Republic and Avondale Industries. Retirement didn’t slow him down: He refocused his skill with numbers and his attention to detail on supporting the local community, serving as treasurer of the Lansing Lions Club, Pleasant Grove Cemetery and Ithaca Republican Committee, and playing a particularly active role at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, as a trustee and, more recently, as a member of the church council.
He was always surrounded by friends and family, and despite health setbacks in recent years, he always looked toward the future and never lost sight of the things he was passionate about, from being a father to his personal interests in early American history, antiques, cooking, wine, politics and the landscape – and birds – just outside the windows of his home.
A service will be held for Robert at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, October 25, at the St. Paul’s United Methodist Church.
