ROBERT J. WILLIAMS, age 65, a former resident of McLean, NY and a client of the Cortland Community Re-entry Program residing at Pomeroy Apts., Cortland, NY passed away Friday, May 1, 2009 at University Hospital, Syracuse, NY after a lengthy illness. "Bob" was born Sept. 3, 1943 in Queens, NY, the oldest child of the late James and Mary Sloan Williams. Bob’s family moved to McLean in 1951. Bob was a 1961 graduate of Dryden High School. He served in the US Army before being employed by NYS DOT in Syracuse as an engineering aide. He was a member of Carrington-Fuller Post #800, American Legion and the Cortland Bowling Hall of Fame. Bob appeared numerous times on the King of the Hill televison bowling show. He was an avid Yankee Baseball fan and greatly enjoyed casino visits, playing Black Jack, and friendships that he developed. Despite his disabilities, he was a formidable competitor. Bob’s family wishes to thank the many care givers that attended to Bob in the years of his disability.

Survivors include his siblings, Thomas (Margaret) Williams, Mary McGee, Deborah (Ronald Bailer) Williams all of Cortland and Jean (Dale) Cotterill of Dryden; several nieces, nephews and cousins, an uncle, Samuel Sloan of Midlothian, IL.; an aunt, Joan (Sam) Ferro, of Cortland.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM, Wednesday, May 6, 2009, at the Perkins Funeral Home with Rev. John Iler officiating. Burial will follow in Groton Rural Cemetery, Groton, NY. Friends are invited to call from 6 to 8 PM Tuesday at the funeral home, 55 West Main St., Dryden. Memorials may be made to the Seven Valley US Bowling Congress Hall of Fame, 4145 North Tower Road, East Freetown, NY 13040, the McLean Fire Dept, Rescue Squad, The Square, McLean, NY 13102 or the charity of one’s choice.
