Ronald West Space

Ronald West Space, age76, died March 28, 2008 at his home in Dryden, New York. Ron was born in Dryden, on the 17th of July 1931 to Ralph Griswold Space and Zetta West Space on their family farm of several generations. Ron is survived by his wife of 55 years, Phyllis Basil Space of Dryden, and his two sons, Philip B. Space, (Becky) of Springfield, Virginia and Ronald W. Space II, (Ivy) of Freeville, NY. His grandchildren include Philip, Christopher, Jeremy, Kelsey, Callan, Carson and Denver Space and great-grandchildren Tyler and Allyssa Space.Ron was born in Dryden and grew up on the family farm and homestead dating back to 1802. He was a graduate of Dryden Central School and Cornell University.

After graduating from Cornell, he went into partnership with his father, Ralph, and subsequently expanding the family farm, resettling to the current location of Millbrook Farm in Freeville in 1956, where he was owner and manager until 1988 when he continued his career managing the Department of Animal Science Teaching and Research Center at Cornell University. Ron served on many boards and committees throughout his life with his involvement on the founding board of trustees for Tompkins Cortland Community College being a highlight. Ron was an avid fan of all sports and loved attending the many sporting events that his children and grandchildren participated in. Ron and Phyllis discovered skiing in the early 1970’s and enjoyed many skiing trips with their sons and grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 11 AM Tuesday, April 1, 2008 at the Perkins Funeral Home, 55 West Main St., Dryden, NY. Burial will be in Willow Glen Cemetery at a late date. There are no calling hours. The Space family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Ronald W. Space, may be made to the Tompkins Cortland Community College (TC3) Foundation, Annual Campaign, P.O. Box 520, Dryden, NY 13053
