RUTH BURRAGE FISHER
of Ithaca, beloved mother and nana, passed away on the evening of September 15, 2004, at Cayuga Medical Center at the age of 87.
She was born July 2, 1917 in State College Pennsylvania to Leslie and Sigrid Burrage. She taught school in Phoenixville, PA, then married in Long beach, CA. She and Elwood returned to Washington, DC, spent two years in Gainesville, FL, then to Cornell.
Ruth received her BA from Pennsylvania State University and MA from Cornell University. Ruth retired from teaching home economics at Newfield Central School in 1978.
Ruth was a member of Peoples Baptist Church in Newfield where she sang in the choir and accompanied the choir on
the piano, was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi women's fraternity, Ithaca area retired teachers, Salvation Army Golden Agers, and the Senior Citizens Choir.
She was predeceased by her husband, Elwood Fisher; and by her brother, Robert Burrage. Ruth is survived by her sister, Edith Wilson; children, David, Allen, Susan Hewes, and Robert; grandchildren, Angela, Geoffrey Hewes, Aaron, Charles Hewes, A ndrew, Leslie, and Daniel; daughters-in-law, Ramona, Deborah, Carol, and Geraldine; son-in-law, Mark Hewes.
Burial services will be held at Pleasant Grove Cemetery at 1:45 p.m. on Saturday, September 18, followed by a memorial service at Peoples Baptist Church in Newfield at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to remember Ruth Fisher may do so through donations to the Salvation Army in Ithaca, NY. Perkins Funeral Home, 55 West Main St., Dryden, NY, assisted the family.
