Ruth Marie Givens

RUTH MARIE GIVENS, age 83, of Waverly and formerly of Ithaca and Cortland, NY passed away Friday, December 9th, 2005 at the Tioga Nursing Facility. Mrs. Givens was born Sept. 25th, 1922 in Manhattan the only child of the late Benjamin and Anna Higgins Parker. Her family relocated to Dryden, NY when Ruth was 10 years old. She was graduated from Dryden High School on 1941 and was married to Harrison Duane Givens on October 19, 1941. Mr. Givens passed away December 27, 1995. Ruth was employed years ago as a cashier at the Dryden Victory Market Store and was later the manager of the Groton Ave. Victory Market Store in Cortland. She was a member of the Leonard T. Spaulding Post American Legion, Ladies Auxiliary Unit #1134; the Ladies Auxiliary of the Finger Lakes Post 961, Veterans of Foreign Wars and was associated with the 101st Airborne Association. She also was a member of the Tompkins County American Legion Auxiliary. Ruth volunteered for many years at the Tompkins Community Hospital and was a former member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Ithaca. Currently was a member of the Waverly United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her daughter, Patricia (Harold) Woolschlager of Waverly; her sons, Michael (Patricia) Givens of VanEtten and Christopher Givens of Issaquah, WA; nine grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren and one great great-grandson; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Monday, December 12, 2005 at the Perkins Funeral Home, 55 West Main St., Dryden. Rev. Anne Bey Canfield will officiate. Friends are invited to call from 1 to 2 PM Monday at the funeral home. Delayed interment will be in Willow Glen Cemetery, Dryden.
